The holiday season, and more Monterey photos

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our US-based friends and family!! We’re looking forward to celebrating tomorrow at our friends’ house. He and his family moved to San Jose from overseas last year, and have graciously offered to host us for Thanksgiving dinner. The only condition is that we had to bring dessert, so, I’m baking a pumpkin cheesecake (I don’t really like pumpkin pie) and my mom’s recipe for apple pie. Hopefully it turns out as well as hers always did!

The holiday season experience is sort of weird for us right now. We still open the french doors to the back yard every morning so we can see the lemon tree and palm trees over breakfast, I’m still biking to work wearing only a couple of light layers most days, and we still drive with the top down on the car (granted, I have my seat warmer on and I’m bundled up pretty tight – but I’m kind of a wimp). And yet, there are Christmas decorations and lights and poinsettas and warm holiday wishes everywhere.

We did celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving here in SJ, just the two of us, but it was very different from the celebrations we’re used to, with lots of family and friends close by. We’re looking forward to heading home for Christmas (just booked our flights today!) to see everyone, and for a (small) dose of snow (very small).
