About Our Route
We departed on 23 June 2018, heading inland west from Sydney to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia, spent some time in that area, then met up with the Sydney Jeep Club on 9 July to tackle a Simpson Desert Crossing (west to east). We split up with them at Birdsville around the 15 July and headed north while they headed back south to Sydney, and from there we made our way through Outback Queensland, the Dinosaur Trail, over to the coast and then up to Cape York and the top of Australia.
After spending most of August in Cape York we made our way west over to the Northern Territory, through beautiful Boodjamulla, Litchfield, and Kakadu National Parks, before crossing into Western Australia at Lake Argyle near the end of September.
Unfortunately, we broke down and needed a major repair at Kununurra, and weren’t able to tackle the Gibb River Road (yet!!) due to the wet season rolling in at the end of October. We continued on to Broome and the west coast of Western Australia, with a brief dip inland to Marble Bar (Australia’s Hottest Town!), before making it to Perth in early December.
We then spent December exploring the southwest corner of W.A. and all of the amazing wineries, breweries, cheeseries and chocolateries, as well as the beautiful endless forests that region has to offer.
We spent Christmas camped up at a quiet spot between a river and a dirt road, and as of this writing on 1 January 2019 (Happy New Year!) we are on our way to spend a quick couple of days in Esperance before heading up to cross the Nullarbor into South Australia.
Once we reach Adelaide, we will have completed a full circumnavigation of Australia when you include our 2-month trip from 2017, which you can see at our Garmin shared map at http://share.garmin.com/nickandpam! You can follow us live at that link, too – our satellite communicator pings our location pretty frequently.
